The Directorate of Information (DoI), Radio Client Unit Team is the focal point of contact for issues relating to the Airwave Radio Service. The role entails developing and implementing work packages to identify and optimise the Airwave radio network in the London metropolitan area. This will entail making a detailed analysis of the existing Airwave service, compare this with requirements and report to the Head of Radio Services. Liaison with suppliers (Arqiva, Airwave Solutions Ltd. and NPIA) will be necessary as will chairmanship of user group meetings
responsibilities include:A review of Airwave performance in each Borough to optimise the set-up e.g. valid site profiles and mobility parameters. Produce a baseline set-up / configuration for each Borough, this to include details for aerial alignment, a spectrum readout for the site, site configuration settings, maps for the Borough showing cell affiliation, RSSI, and MER Develop a process of continual checking to capture system degradation in future as has happened over the years since RFS.Produce / develop procedures and processes around the delivery of live Airwave System data / activity so that the performance of the Airwave Service can be used for tactical input to operational activities. Produce / Develop processes and procedures for planned and spontaneous events. Develop a management suite of reports for "Airwave Service Performance". This needs to include capacity evaluation. Managing and recommending service improvements. Review of Airwave Requests for Change (RFC) providing input as necessary on operational impact of the proposed changes. Ensuring services are ‘best value' and benchmarked wherever possible. Analysis and evaluation of any other Airwave Service related matters as requested by Head of Radio Services
EssentialDemonstrable experience (5 yrs) in working with the Motorola Centracom equipment and the UK Airwave Service architecture.A broad understanding of radio services with an in depth knowledge of Tetra, in an emergency services environmentDemonstrable experience of optimisation of a large Tetra Infrastructure / Service Evidence of a recent Tetra Radio Services delivery (3 yrs) and a sound knowledge of telecommunications services
Experience (Desirable) A broad understanding of the IT Service Management Methodology (ITIL), Skills and Abilities (Essential). The ability to set and meet work priorities to achieve outcomes within timeframes and budget;Effective written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people at all levels; An in depth knowledge of UK / European Tetra standards and UK government encryption standards / requirements.
