Teacher Jobs: typical responsibilities

  • Lesson plans in line with the national curriculum and Key Skills requirements
  • Encourage learning, motivation and education of students
  • Teaching predominantly in a classroom environment, although there may be scope for teaching out doors and on trips e.g. when visiting cathedrals.
  • Be up to date with the latest behavioural and teaching techniques
  • Reporting to head of departments and parents on student achievements
  • For secondary school teachers it is vital that your sector knowledge is up to date
  • Candidates must be prepared to work some flexible hours for parents evenings, open days and school trips

What qualifications do I need to be Teacher?

To teach in the UK you need to hold a recognised teacher qualification such as a QTS; this is achieved on passing the initial teacher training test (ITT) via completion of a recognised teaching degree or other educational qualification such as a level 4 NVQ. A range of related training and accreditation is also available through universities, FE colleges and other learning providers across the country.

Salary Details

  • Starting salaries for teaching jobs range from £19,000 to £24,000
  • Salaries for more experienced teachers range from £26,000 to £35,000
  • Salaries for head of departments, deputy head and head teachers are generally higher than a standard teaching position.
