Supported Housing Jobs: typical responsibilities
- You will be asked to advising on housing and welfare benefits
- You will need to demonstrate an understanding of working directly with vulnerable people; this can include tenants with ill health, elderly, behavioural issues, domestic violence, homeless.
- Participate in the selection of new tenants through interviews and applications
- Review and enforce tenancy agreements
- To provide on-going help and support to residents wishing to enable them to successfully manage their move-on tenancy or ensure tenancies are renewed
- To assist residents in accessing education, training and employment opportunities and to support them in their placements
- To prepare residents for independent living by offering advice and support on practical issues such as budgeting
- You will need to be IT literate with good verbal and writing skills
- Many roles require you to have flexible working hours as weekend and sleep-ins are part of the working hours. You may also be required to attend local meetings
- Some jobs require you to have a car
What qualifications do I need to be a Supported Housing Officer?
Candidates will need to have experience of both tenancy regulations, previous work as a housing officer or liaison officer and experience working with a specific group of people e.g. behavioural difficulties, the elderly, homeless. Knowledge of the 1996 Housing Act and the latest local authorities housing guidelines is advantageouse. You will need to pass an enhanced CRB check. A language qualification can help in your application for some supported housing jobs.

- Starting salaries for supported housing officers can range from £20,000 to £28,000
- Salaries for supported housing managers can range from £35,000 to £45,000
- Salaries can vary depending on the organisation, the group of people you are looking after and location of your work.
