You will be a a dedicated Network Design Engineer, who is able to produce detailed network designs for small to medium scale inter-networks. You will be responsible for interpreting current best practice network design guidelines and then developing them into site specific designs and providing third line support during the commissioning of the design. It is expected that you will have a broad cross section of relevant recent experience in the design and implementation of inter-networks and is also able to interface with other groups such as Applications, Cabling and Microsoft to understand and work within any identified constraints or dependencies. An appropriate level of documentation competence is also desirable.
You will be required to; Design and implement network solutions following structured and recognised practices; Actively participate in consulting for new project design elements; Lead certain project elements with minimal guidance as required; Contribute in design/work-groups as required; Provide knowledge transfer to Operations staff (eg in relation to the use of Cisco products, Network Architecture).
You must hold current SC level security clearance as a minimum for this role.
The following skills are required; Experience in designing and implementing small and large scale networks; Creation and maintenance of technical documentation for architecture and design level specs, implementation/migration processes and procedures, build guides, unit and integration test plans; Current CCNP Certification (minimum); Excellent communications skills (will involve liaison with customer/ and 3rd party application suppliers); Well grounded technical experience and multi-service infrastructure and engineering skills; Strong practical knowledge of IP network services for internet and intranet technologies; Applied knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies
It would be desirable if the candidate had experience in some of the following areas:
- Cisco switches, network analysis module, lead-balancers
- Cisco features/services (eg VLANs, VTP, PVST+, SNMP, SSH)
- Cisco network device hardening
- Spirent TestCentre (plus Avalanch and Reflector test equipment)
- Shunra Cloud WAN Emulators
- PIX and Symantic SGS Firewalls
