Our client, a London based housing charity are seeking a Purchasing Officer. You will assist the Purchasing Manager ensuring good practice, cost savings, legal compliance and value for money.
Responsibilities include:
• Being the first point of call for access to the procurement function. • Working towards producing a purchasing manual. • Carrying out the task of analysis, report writing and make recommendations on any areas within the purchasing remit as designated by the Purchasing Manager. • Investigating and reporting on the latest trends such as E-catalogues and E-auctions. • Initiating and helping with tender exercises and invitations to quote. • Working on tenders for internal customers and producing and issuing tender documents. • Monitoring and maintaining high level contact with suppliers to ensure delivery of the key principles. • Conducting research on areas of the charities spend with reference to specification and standardisation. • Purchasing in a manner which complements and supports the introduction of quality management systems in the organisation.
The successful candidate will have:
• A commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity. • A customer centred approach and the necessary social skills to initiate constructive relations with customers and agencies in a complex procurement environment. • An Understanding of how environmental, health and safety and equal opportunity issues impact on purchasing. • Must have good interpersonal skills and work effectively without supervision; organised and self-reliant. • Experience of setting up a formal purchasing system with authorisation, ordering, receipt and payment documentation. • An understanding of risk management. • Knowledge of vehicle management. • Awareness of the charity sector and homelessness in particular.
