Qualified Social Worker is required to work within a Fostering and Adoption team. To manage assigned work in accordance with DoH guidelines, National Fostering standards, Departmental Policies and Procedures, Standing Orders, Budget and other relevant legislation.
To work in accordance with the Fostering Teams Performance Standards and Targets.
To make a timely and appropriate response to all work allocated.
To take an active role in foster carer recruitment.
To process foster carer applications, undertake preparation groups and assessments and provide reports on recommended outcomes.
To act as a Link Social Worker to allocated foster carers, providing an ongoing contact point with the Team presenting an annual review to the Fostering Panel.
To contribute to the identification of suitable placements in response to placement requests as required (particularly when on Fostering Duty).
To maintain records in accordance with Departmental requirements and ensure they are properly secured and available at all times.
To undertake regular supervision or consultation with the Line Manager and ensure the Line Manager is made aware of any issue of major importance or concern.
To provide assessments and reports to court or appropriate panels as and when required and to attend court and panels as necessary.
To identify any unmet needs of a child in foster care that are not already included in the Child's/Placement plan and in consultation with the Community Child and Family Team social worker agree action.
To carry out all statutory requirements which arise in relation to the caseload and assist colleagues in carrying out statutory requirements and other work as appropriate.
To alert the Line Manager of any discernible trends in the pattern of work developing in the area covered.
To contribute to new developments and policy formulation as appropriate.
To operate at all times within the professional ethic and disciplines of social work described in the BASW code of ethics.
To contribute to in-house training programmes and supervise students as appropriate.
To develop good working relationships with other agencies and other colleagues within the Council as appropriate.
To be prepared to participate in the out-of-hours duty rota. (Up to 3 additional increments are paid for being on the rota).
To carry out other duties as may be required from time to time as commensurate with the grading of the post.
