Activities Co-ordinator Job Description: typical responsibilities

• Organise and co-ordinate activities for active daily living
• Organise an activities programme that will maintain interest and progression over a period of time 
• Identify the needs of the collective group and individuals and tailor the activities to suit them
• Activities need to be in conjunction within the rules of the company employing you and  your environment e.g. from the home manger, restrictions from the environment you are working in, leisure center rules etc.
• Encourage involvement from the local community to attend your activities
• You will need to be a committed, patient and caring person with a sense of humour and a positive outlook on life.
• You will also need to be highly motivated and have excellent communicate skills to deliver your activity programmes to a range of people.
• You will need to be able to work well in a team and liaise with other staff, volunteers and residents  
• The main aim is to improve the intellectual, physical and overall health of the people in your care
• Some jobs may require you to work flexible working hours

What qualifications do I need to be an Activities Co-ordinator?

There are no actual qualifications required to work as an activities co-ordinator, however if you have a wide range of practical and creative skills e.g. arts, crafts, spots coaching etc this can assist in getting you the job. For more roles with more responsibility you may be required to have a GNVQ / NVQ in care, qualifications in Sports Coaching, basic first aid training or equivalent. More importantly for these jobs you will need to have excellent communication skills, be highly self-motivated and have a high level of self-confidence. Previous experience in working with people in your chosen area e.g. the elderly can also help improve your chances of getting that activities co-ordinator job. Passing a CRB check is essential. Some jobs may require you to hold a clean and current driving license.

• Basic activities co-ordinator salaries start around £6 per hour
• Pay will increase with your level of experience and the increase in your responsibility. The amount will vary depending on the location and who you are working for.
