Support Worker Job Description: typically responsibilities

• assisting with the smooth running of the home/hostel
• to help clients maintain and develop relationships
• to help clients manage their personal care and health needs
• to provide staffing cover where necessary
• ensuring all legal policies and procedures are adhered to
• carrying out health and safety checks

What qualifications do I need to be a Support Worker?

The main qualification employers will look for is previous experience. For most support worker jobs applicants will only be considered if they have worked as a support worker in a similar environment to the job advertised e.g. as a support worker for the elderly. Candidates should also be able to show experience of developing support plans and carrying out assessments. Finally, applicants will have to show a high level of compassion and caring towards those that they are to care for. Some support worker jobs may require you to hold a current CRB check.

• Salaries for support workers can range from £7.00 to £12.00 per hour
• Work tends to be on an ad-hoc basis and you will need to be flexible
• Most Support Worker roles tend to be temporary although some permanent positions are available
